I remember that year very well. My father returned home from Vietnam after a 3 year deployment and got his discharge from the Marine Corp. Martin Luther King was assassinated in March. I was still in school and Bobby Kennedy was running for President. He was assassinated in June of that year. Broke my heart for both their families. The times they were a changin' and the music was too. Led Zeppelin had banded together, the Doors were saying they were going to make a movie, Johnny Cash did his Folsom Prison album and married June, Jimmy Hendricks was a hit, as were James Brown, and The Beatles, The Monkeys did their final episode of their show, and Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey were in the new Romeo and Juliet and the sound track was a big hit. I know you're wondering how I remember all this, but having my father home for the first time in 3 years was kind of an adjustment and that year seems etched in my mind forever.
I'll have to buy the book just to relive some of the history.
Happy New Year!!

Great post, Jan. I remember the time so well. I think the reason why I loved A GROOVY CHRISTMAS so much, is that you put some much of yourself and the history into the novella -- reliving the times, as you said. I was not much younger than you at that time and can definitely relate. Merry Christmas!
